My son plays football. On practice days, before they start a game, their coach make them do some drills. One of the drills is running sideways.
Boxers, basketball players, football players, and racquetball players also incorporate this in their training and as runners we will benefit a lot from this drill, too. Moving in more than one plane of motion is important for balance, agility, injury prevention, and speed.
